Bangladeshis are urged to join the nation building task

Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mr. Akramul
Qader urged the non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to work
for establishing a network to attain the goal of making
Bangladesh a Digital Bangladesh. Speaking at the concluding
session of the two day 'Conference on Ideas and Innovations
for the Development of Bangladesh: the Next Decade' Ambassador
Qader said that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina assumed power with a clear vision of graduating
Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021. Elaborating
on statistics and data, Ambassador Qader urged the help
of NRBs in the USA for creating a web of networks so that
all can join their hands in this crucial phase of nation
building. The Bangladesh Ambassador lauded the organizers
for holding the conference and said that the intellectual
exercise will provide inputs for the policy makers and
opinion builders in Bangladesh. Referring to Bangladesh-US
relations, he said that Bangladesh will pursue its goals
in the USA with the confidence it draws from the recent
progress in bilateral relationship, the shared values,
the goodwill and support that the relationship enjoys
both in Bangladesh and the USA. Among others, US Ambassador
to Bangladesh Mr. James Moriarty also spoke on the occasion.
It may be mentioned that this is for the second time this
conference was held at world famous seat of learning-Harvard
University.
The conference held
on 9 and 10 October 2009 at the John F. Kennedy School
of Government at Harvard University in Boston, USA organized
by Bangladesh Development Initiative, USA, Democracy and
Development in Bangladesh Forum and Harvard Kennedy School,
Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation,
the conference was attended by high Bangladesh government
dignitaries including the Economic Affairs Adviser to
the Prime Minister Dr. Masihur Rahman, Adviser to Prime
Minister for Power, Energy, Mineral Resources Dr. Tawfiq
Elahi Chowdhury, BB, Member of Parliament Dr. Mohiuddin
Khan Alamgir and Chairman of Board of Investment Dr. S
A Samad. A large number of professionals from Bangladesh
and the non-resident Bangladeshis living in the USA also
attended the conference. The conference dealt with issues
ranging from governance, investment, energy and environment,
human infrastructure to media and culture. The two-day
long deliberations were followed by recommendations on
each of the topics discussed at the conference.
